Bromsgrove Weekly Messenger, 2nd June 1917:
BELBROUGHTON MAN, KILLED
Retired Police-Sergeants Son
Ex-Police-sergeant Parry, of Gorse Green Cottage, Belbroughton, formerly of Clent and Bromsgrove, has received news of the death in action of his son, Sergt. J.W. Parry, of the Worcesters. He was single and 23 years of age, and formerly worked on Vicount Cobhams’s estate. Lieut. Percy Carter writes that he was reported missing after an attack on the night of April 24th. He was always a willing worker, with a high sense of duty, and cheerful under all conditions, in spite of his physical weakness. The parents were notified last Sunday week that the body of Sergt. Parry was found when his battalion were coming out of the line. He has been on active service a year and 8 months. Police-sergeant Parry had been in the force 31½ years, five of which were spent at Bromsgrove, and he retired in January last. A portrait of the deceased sergeant will be given next week.
