Further Information About PARDOE George
George Pardoe lived at 24 Brook Street, Lye and attended Wollescote school. He volunteered for the Worcesters on the 5th August 1915 and went to the 1st Battalion which fought on the Somme from Ovillers on the 1st July to the Transloy Ridges on the 23rd October. By this time George Pardoe had had no leave since arriving in France. After the Somme the Worcesters followed up the retreat of the German forces to the Hindenburg Line in early 1917. The first attack of this advance was in March at Bouchavesnes and the last on the 16th April at La Vacquerie in sight of the Line. There were few casualties at this final stage but Private George Pardoe was wounded and sent back to a Field Ambulance. He died of wounds on the 18th April.
