Further Information About PAGE Ernest R

Appears on the Army casualties list for Worcestershire.

A letter from H.J. Winnington, Honorary Secretary of PCC, St James Church, Wollaston dated 17th December 1950 can be found within war records held at Worcestershire Archives requesting that Corporal Ernest Page, Sherwood Foresters be added to the county roll of honour.

The following information has been researched and transcribed by The Black Country Society:
By the start of 1944 Ernest Page was in the 14th Battalion of the Sherwood Foresters in the 7th Motor Brigade in the 1st Division. By 1943 this Division, which had been at Dunkirk, had been sent to North Africa and had fought at Tunis. In December 1943 the troops crossed to Italy and were part of the sea-borne attack on Anzio. The battle started on the 22nd January and continued for six months as the troops were pinned down near the beach head. Just before the eventual break-out Corporal Ernest Page was killed in action.
