Further Information About NIGHTINGALE Walter
Walter Nightingale was the elder son of Mrs Nightingale of 61 High Street, Wollaston. He had been a steam hammer driver before the Great War and a member of the Stourbridge Volunteers at the age of 16. Walter enlisted as a Territorial in the Worcesters in 1914 and then transferred to the Regular Army in May 1915. He was posted to the 9th Battalion on 26th April 1916. He joined them in Mesopotamia but within 6 weeks was in a military hospital at Amara. He died of an illness on the 13th July.
