Further Information About MOSELEY William

Malvern News, Saturday 15th January 1916:
Pte W Moseley, 8th Worc has been killed in action. He was formerly chauffeur to Mr C.C. Broad of Malvern and subsequently in the same capacity to Mr Blake, the landlord of the Shakespeare Hotel, Worcester. He was 21 and belonged to a family who have for many years lived at Hendon where they are well known and respected. Mr H Moseley received the following letter from Colonel Peake:
“I very much regret to inform you that your brother, Pte W Moseley, was killed in action this morning. Briefly the circumstances are as follows: The Germans started a sudden shelling with high explosive of the village where our HG are about 8.45 am and your brother at the time was going to the water cart to ill his water bottle when a shell hit the road close beside him and death was instantaneous. I deeply regret his death as he was a nice cheery boy, always willing to do his duty whatever it was, or under whatever circumstances and his loss as a trained signaller will be hard to replace. His death has caused a deep gloom among his comrades in the communication section, where he was deservedly popular.
He will be buried in our private cemetery by the Chaplain of the 16th Manchesters. His grave will be beside Lieutenant Wilson’s who was killed in September and who commanded the communication section for many months and I know had a sincere affection for your brother.”
The Revd R W Balleime, Chaplain also sent his condolences.
