Malvern News, Saturday 14th April 1917:
Miss Durham, friend of the late Sgt Morris (son of Mr Francis Morris of 3 Lansdowne Terrace) has received a letter from Lieut & Adj H M Robinson of his MGC Coy: “Sgt Morris was my orderly room clerk until he chose to come to my section. He was killed during an attack on the enemy trenches; being chosen to go over with the attack in charge of four guns. He did his work very well and was returning for more guns when he was hit by a sniper – he died instantly. He was the best Sergeant in the Company had and his loss is felt keenly by the officers and men. Personally I feel his death very much, as he was one of my friends”.
Francis Morris has no known grave, the photograph available shows his name on Thiepval Memorial.
