Further Information About MORRIS Ernest Gilbert

A letter from E.L. Phillips, The Rectory, Madresfield, dated 17th May 1945 can be found within war records held at Worcestershire Archives requesting that Ernest Gilbert Price be added to the county roll of honour. The letter states that Ernest served with the 7th Worcester (Powick) Platoon, Home Guard.

The following is an extract from the excellent book, Chronicles of The Worcestershire Home Guard’ by Milk Wilks, published 2014, and is reproduced under copyright and by kind permission of the author:
Ernest Morris lived at 24 Madresfield with his wife and two young children.  He was employed as a farm labourer at nearby Lower Woodsfield Farm.  Private Morris was cycling along Gloucester Drive, returning to duty in Madresfield Park, when he attempted to ride across a cattle grid and fell between two iron frames, struck his head against a concrete wall of the ditch, and was drowned in the water below.  The coroner brought in a verdict of accidental death.
