The following report appears in the Berrow’s Worcester Journal, Saturday 2nd January 1943:
CALLOW END SOLDIER KILLED
Christmas Eve brought the tragic news to Mr. And Mrs. T Moran of West Dene, Callow End that their only son, Spr. W G Moran, had been killed in North Africa. He was 29 years of age. Spr. Moran, formerly employed by Worcestershire County Council Highways and Bridges Department, volunteered for the Royal Engineers in March 1940. He served with the B.E.F. in France, arriving back at the end of June, 1940, after a hazardous journey across France to Marseilles. Until he was again drafted overseas in late October of this year he had been stationed on the south-east coast. News of his death came only a few days after his parents had received a letter from him saying he had arrived safely at his destination. In January, 1941, he married Miss D. Guest, of 298, Hasbury, Halesowen, at St. George’s Catholic Church, Worcester. Spr. Moran was well known in the district and he had many friends.
The report includes a photograph of Sapper Walter Moran.
