Birmingham Mercury, 16th July 1944
Baronet’s Heir Killed
Lieut-Col. A. W. H. J. Montgomery-Cuninghame (39), Royal Scots Fusiliers, eldest son and heir of Sir Thomas Montgomery-Cuninghame and Lady Symonds, has been killed in action.
Sir Thomas, the 10th Baronet, was formerly military attaché in Vienna and Athens.
There is a family legend that in 1339 one of his ancestors hid Prince Malcolm, who was fleeing from Macbeth after the defeat of Duncan, by covering him with hay. The hay fork in and the arms and motto, “Over fork over,” perpetuate the story.
