A letter from Eric Montagu’s mother, Mrs E. Monatgu, Post Office, Bayton, Near Kidderminster dated 3rd April 1952 can be found within war records held at Worcestershire Archives requesting that his name be added to the county roll of honour. The letter states that Private Eric Algernon Montagu, Worcestershire Regiment was her only son and that he lost his life on active service in Italy on 12th October 1943 aged 23. A letter from the vicar of Bayton dated 5th May 1950, held within the same war records gives Eric’s unit as B Company, 8th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment.
