A letter from Bryan’s mother, Mrs A.M. Mobberley, Bodvean, Sandy Road, Stourbridge dated 20th March 1952 can be found within war records held at Worcestershire Archives requesting that his name be added to the County Roll of Honour. The letter gives the particulars as Sergeant Bryan Arthur Mobberley, RAFVR Coastal Command, Service No 944128, missing 9th January 1942.
The following information has been researched by The Black Country Society:
Bryan Mobberley was the son of Thomas and Alice Mobberley of Pedmore and he was educated at King Edward’s School from 1928 to 1934. He worked for Kimberley Morrison and Co., Chartered Accountants, and was awarded a war-time B.A. He was also a keen golfer at the Churchill and Blakedown Club. He enlisted in the Royal Air Force and at the start of 1942 he was stationed at Limavady, Londonderry, with 224 Squadron of Coastal Command. This squadron flew Hudsons on anti-submarine duties in the Atlantic. Patrols covered the critical area to the west of the neutral Irish Free State. On one such flight on the 8th January 1944 Sergeant Mobberley’s aircraft did not return. His name is also commemorated on his parents’ grave in St. Mary’s churchyard, Oldswinford.
