Further Information About MILLINGTON P F

P.F. Millington is listed on a separate plaque alongside the main memorial with the years of his attendance at the school shown as 1933 – 1936.

School records reveal two students with the name Millington, Philip Edmund and Frederick Brian, both boarders. Philip enjoyed drama, was a drummer in the school band, played rugby, was a member of the shooting VIII and was a heavyweight boxer. He took part in the Normandy D-Day landings when he was a Captain with the Royal Horse Artillery and he was awarded the Military Cross in late 1944. At the end of the war he was Troop Commander of “C” Troop. Information added to his school records by the headmaster in 1950 state that he was killed on active service whilst serving as a Captain with the 115th Field Regiment Royal Artillery, however his name does not appears on the final list of casualties and there is no record on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission or the Army Veterans Roll of Honour of those who have died in conflicts since the end of WW2.

Frederick Millington attended Worcester Royal Grammar School from 1938 to 1943. He was an academic student who enjoyed art as well as playing in the school band.

Royal Grammar School information taken from: In Dedication to a Future World By Mark Rogers, 1999.

The Army Roll of Honour gives the following details on Frederick:
Lieutenant
Royal Leicestershire Regiment
Service No 368164
Born 17th February 1927
Died aged 24 on 23rd April 1951
Buried in United Nations Memorial Cemetery, Pusan, Korea, Section 17. Row 3. Grave 720.
Commemorated on the Armed Forces Memorial at The National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffordshire, England.

On the basis of these details it is probable that Frederick Brian Millington is the former school student who died on active service and the initials P.F. on the plaque are incorrect.

The grave photograph available shows Frederick Millington’s name on the Armed Forces Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, England.
