MILLICHIP Herbert

Herbert Millichip resided at 43 Mitton Street, the fourth son of Mr and Mrs George Millichip, Foundry Street, Stourport. He joined the 12th Worcestershires shortly after the outbreak of war and after training proceeded to the Dardanelles with the 9th Battalion. There, he contracted dysentry and after a prolonged stay at Malta, was brought home to hospital in Southampton, where he died on Christmas Day. His brothers, all Privates: John of Manor Road, 12th Worcesters, in the Dardanelles), William of Brindley Street, 13th Worcestershires, in France and George of Lickhill Road, 13th Worcestershires in France are also serving, all joined the forces soon after the war commenced. All four brothers were employed by Kidderminster Corporation on the farm at Stourport. The Millichip’s grandson, Trooper Edwin Green of Burlish Cottages is training with the Royal Field Artillery. Reverend Pettigrew conducted the burial service with military honours provided by the Stouport Company of the V.T.C., under Sergeant Gittens.  The Last Post was sounded by Bugler Eli Darby. The mourners included the parents, other relatives and a party of wounded soldiers from Areley Kings hospital.
