Further Information About MCCRORIE Thomas Fraser

On the night of 22nd June 1943 a total 0f 557 aircraft took part in a raid on Mulheim in the Ruhr Valley in Germany.  Thomas McCrorie was the Pilot of Stirling MKIII EH889 AA-Z which took off at 23.48 from Newmarket to take part in the Mulheim raid.  The aircraft never reached its target, it was shot down in the early hours of 23rd June over the Netherlands by a German night-fighter, crashing into the Ijsselmeer and killing all on board. A total of 35 aircraft from 75 Squadron were lost during the raid.

The following corrections relating to the above report have been drawn to my attention by the son of Thomas McCrorie:

The F540 report indicates that 15 aircraft from 75(NZ) Squadron RAF were detailed for the raid and 4 failed to return. The 75 NZ Squadron website indicates that fourteen squadron aircraft were detailed, one aircraft returned early having been hit by AA fire and 4 failed to return. The F540 also gives the target incorrectly as Mannheim.
