William Marshall was born in Hockley Worcestershire in July 1875.  He enlisted for the duration of the war as a Private in the 14th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment on 8th June 1915 at the Central Recruiting Office, Broad Street, Worcester, Service No 21517. He lived at The Barracks, Alfrick near Worcester, he gave his age as 39 years and 11 months and his occupation as a Boatman.  William was 5 feet tall and gave his next of kin as his wife, Louisa Marshall, The Barracks, Alfrick, Worcester.  Having seen action in France he was discharged from the army on 17th March 1916 as being no longer physically fit for war service.
