Leslie Marshall was the only son of Albert and Mabel Marshall of 31, Georgina Avenue, St John’s, Worcester. He was a keen cyclist who had ridden extensively within the UK. Prior to enlisting in the army he worked in the City Treasurers Department. During his 5 years in the Royal Artillery, Leslie was in Birmingham and Coventry during the Blitz, before being posted to the South and East coasts. After joining the airborne artillery he went to Burma and India in 1943 where he was injured on an operational flight. In early 1944 he was pronounced fit for duty and returned to his unit after 10 weeks in hospital. He was killed in action in January 1945 before his next leave when he was to have married Miss Pamela Shaw of Great Barr.
