John Marsh, 801 Squadron HMS Furious and Naval Aircraftman George R. Nicholson, 801 Squadron, HMS Vulture were flying in a Blackburn Skua aircraft taking part in the Dunkirk Operation. Their aircraft was shot down in flames by Bf109’s and crashed following an attack in the Nieuport area. Both men were posted missing at the time.
