Further Information About MARKS James

James Marks, Private, 200640, 1st/7th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment, Summerfield Road, appears on the Absent Voters List for Stourport 1918.

James Marks was the son of George and Hannah Marks of Lyndhurst, Summerfield Road, Stourport.  He joined the Worcesters on the outbreak of war and after two-and-a-half years in France, was sent to Italy 12 months ago.  He was killed by a shell on the morning of 1st November, the last day of the fighting.  James was formerly employed at the Textile Carpet Co., Stourport.  Aged 30 and married, he was a popular member of Stourport Baptist Church.  He has two brothers also serving: Frederick (Royal Navy) and Harold (RFA) who is in hospital, having undergone an operation.

On 31st October, the 1st/7th Worcesters took part in the Battle of Vittorio Veneto, attacking towards the Asiago near Boccolo.
