Further Information About MANNING Bertie

William was born in Bromsgrove in 1897 and was the son of William and Martha Manning.  In 1901 William was a coachman at a livery stables, in 1911 he is listed as a groom.  Bertie was the 6th of 10 children.  The eldest was Selina, who was a domestic servant, then came William and Sarah; fourth was Jennie who became a mill hand, then Harold, who was an assistant butcher.  In 1911 aged 14, Bertie is listed as a lather boy at a hairdresser’s. Herbert, Dolly, Florence and Olive were the four youngest.

William Manning has no known grave, the photograph available shows his name on Thiepval Memorial.
