Further Information About MACREIGHT Arthur William James
Arthur Macreight attended Worcester Royal Grammar School from 1903 to 1907. He was the eldest son of Albert and Alma Macreight of The Cottage, Gammaton, North Devon. After leaving school he spent 3 months training at HMS Worcester, the Thames Nautical Training College. He spent a further 18 months as a cadet on board the SS Chyebossa, a British India Steamship operating the route between Calcutta and Bombay. In June 1913 he enlisted in the London Irish Rifles and volunteered for overseas service at the outbreak of war. He went to the front with his regiment but was invalided home. He died in Bournemouth following several operations.
