Angus Macalister was born on the 9th June 1879 at Oakford, Devon, the son of Robert and Ellen Louisa (nee Dickinson) Macalister. Siblings: Robert Alexander Downes Macalister, Mabel Adeline Macalister, Blanche Somerled Macalister, Dugald Keith Macalister, Alan Dunbar Macalister, Donald Sempill Macalister, Dorothy Alison Macalister.

Unable to find a record of his death nor the battle in which it took place. The date of his death does not line up with a battle or skirmish at any place called KaffirsKraal and there is no place now called Ottoshoop in South Africa.
