Handley Page Halifax II, No. DG227, Code NP-Q, took off from RAF East Moor at 00.17 hrs on 14th July 1942 for an attack on Duisburg. It crashed into the North Sea some 15 miles south-south east of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. One body was recovered, Sgt Craft, who is buried at West Road Cemetery, Newcastle upon Tyne. The rest are commemorated on the Runnymede memorial. The full crew were Sgt E.G. Dodd, Sgt R.G. Fewtrell, Sgt W.J. Maas, Sgt N.W.S. Cantell, Sgt C. Craft and Sgt A. Harkness.
