Surname spelt Lewis on all military records.
Granville Lewes was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1891. He attended Bromsgrove School from 1902 to 1907. Early in the war he enlisted in the Royal Engineers and saw service in France until he was invalided home. On recovering, he obtained a commission in the Royal Flying Corps and was for about twelve months at Castle Bromwich, training as pilot and then as an instructor. He was killed in a flying accident near Birmingham.
