Donald E. Large, 3rd Worcester Battery, Royal Field Artillery is listed in “Stourport Men and the War” – a list of men serving, Kidderminster Shuttle, 19th December 1914.
Donald Large, 830121, Royal Field artillery, 69 Bewdley Road, appears on the Absent Voters List for Stourport 1918.
Donald Large was the son of the late John and Julia Large, Bewdley Road, Stourport. He died of pneumonia while home on leave. Serving with the Territorial Royal Field Artillery at the outbreak of war, he had gone out with first batch of Territorials and spent three years in France. He was wounded and gassed in the last German offensive. Donald belonged to a musical family and before enlisting he was a member of the Stourport Instrument Society. He turned his gift to account in the recruiting and training camps of the army. Four brothers are still serving, three of them have seen service on the Western and Eastern fronts. The funeral at Lower Mitton Church was attended by 20 members of V.T.C., Sergeant Gittins was in charge. The Last post was played by Bugler Darby.
Donald’s name is recorded on the headstone of his parents grave in Stourport churchyard, Grave No H27.
