Further Information About LAMMERSE Joseph Jack

Joseph Lammerse enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on 10th December 1941 at the R.C.A.F. Recruiting Centre, Toronto, Ontario.  He was born on 25th December 1918 at Toronto, Ontario, the son of Jacob Lammerse (died 1st July 1933) and Dorothy Gwendoline Lammerse nee Tait.  At the time of his attestation Joseph was resident with his widowed mother at 142 Morse St, Toronto.  His next of kin details and address were later amended, recording his wife Elsie and their address as 554 Main St, Toronto, Ontario. He had 5 years previous military experience with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals from 1933 to 1938.  His service records list the particulars of his education, various sports that he enjoyed participating in and his previous occupations.  Joseph was 5 feet 9 inches tall with blue eyes, fair hair and a fair complexion.

The following is an extract from a letter written to Joseph’s wife on 19th January 1943:
“Your husband was suffering from acute nephritis following mastoid operation and was placed on the Seriously Ill List in the Worcester Royal Infirmary on the 30th December 1942 where he died at 4.55 a.m. on the 2nd January 1943. “Your husband’s funeral took place at 3 p.m. on the 6th January 1943 at Pershore Cemetery, Worcestershire.”

Joseph married Elsie Kenyon on 8th December 1941 at Hope United Church, Toronto. The couple had no children.

Leading Aircraftman Joseph Jack Lammerse, age 24, serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force, died in Worcester Royal Infirmary and was buried in consecrated ground in Pershore Cemetery on 6th January 1943.  The ceremony was performed by the Reverend A.C. Lloyd (F/L), R.C.A.F. Headquarters, London.
