Arthur Knight was born at Droitwich in 1895, the son of George and Emma Knight nee Harrison. George was a labourer and the couple had 10 children including:-
Rosanna Knight born 1891.
George Harry Knight born 1892.
Arthur William Knight born 1895
John Knight born 1897.
Thomas Knight born 1901.
Emma Knight born 1903.
Albert Knight born 1906.
The family resided at Holloway Road, Droitwich.
Arthur was known as “Archie” and prior to enlisting at Worcester he was employed as a farmhand. He was formerly Private, 2509, Worcestershire Yeomanry.
Arthur was killed in the trenches at Hebuterne.
Between 16th and 20th October 1916, 1/8th battalion Worcestershire Regiment lost 2 men who were shot in the trenches and died of wounds. Private Knight was one of those men. The other was Private William Henry Leek, also of Droitwich.
Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch Messenger, 4th November 1916:
News has been received, that Private Archie Knight has died in hospital as a result of wounds from a shell as he was leaving the trenches. He has two brothers in the army, one at Salonica and the other in Egypt.
