Further Information About KIMPTON James Frederick

James Kimpton enlisted in the Worcestershire Regiment for a period of 7 years on 8th October 1900 at Birmingham.  Besides home service he also served in India and Burma.  He was promoted to Sergeant on 23rd August 1907 and on the expiration of his service he extended for a further 5 years on 8th October 1907 at Dublin, re-engaging in Ireland on 20th November 1909.  He embarked for the Dardanelles on 30th June 1915 and was posted missing in August 1915.  This was amended to killed in action on 6th August 1915 following a board of enquiry held on 12th February 1916.  His personal effects and later his medals were sent to his wife, Mrs Edith Christina Kimpton, St Catherines Vale, London Road, Worcester.  On an army form completed in August 1919 Edith revealed that the couples 2 oldest children, Ruby born in Birmingham on 16th November 1908 and Reginald born in India on 2nd September 1910 were living in the Royal Albert Orphanage, Worcester.  Their youngest child, Philip born in India on 9th October 1913 was resident with his mother.  James’s father is shown as ‘none’, his mother Mary Kimpton as resident in Birmingham, one brother in Birmingham and a number of married and unmarried sisters.

A photograph of Sergeant Kimpton can be found in Berrow’s Worcester Journal Supplement, Saturday 4th March 1916, available at Worcestershire Archives.
