Basil Kapusta enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on 7th September 1940 at Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was born on 25th January 1922 at Winnipeg, Manitoba, the son of Michael Kapusta and Anna Kapusta, nee Kondratiuk. Michael and Anna were born in Poland and Michael was employed as a labourer (plaster). The family were resident at 1024 Alfred Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Basil was a student at Ottawa University studying welding at the time of his enlistment and he was fluent in Polish, Ukranian and English. His service records list the particulars of his education and a number of sports that he enjoyed participating in. Basil was 5 feet 9 inches tall with blue eyes, brown hair and a fair complexion.
Basil was on a training flight in a Boston III Intruder aircraft when it crashed at approximately 16.45 on 8th February 1943 one mile west/north west of Cock Bevington Hall near Pershore, Worcestershire. He died at the scene of multiple injuries.
Corporal Basil Kapusta, age 21, serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force was buried in consecrated ground in Pershore Cemetery on 13th February 1943. The ceremony was performed by the Reverend A.J.E. Levegue, R.C.A.F. Birmingham.
