This war memorial lists this casualty as Wilfred Jones. However, research in all relevant records has failed to find a casualty with this name from Worcestershire but there are 3 William Jones’ from Bromsgrove who were killed during the war. The 1901 census for Bromsgrove has a Wilfred Jones aged 4 resident in the town, the following information taken from this census has been researched and transcribed by Elizabeth Dovey:
Wilfred was born in 1897 in Bromsgrove and lived in Stourbridge Road. His parents were William and Clara Jones; William was a nail maker. Wilfred was the 6th of 11 children. The eldest was Benjamin who was a bricklayer’s labourer; Ernest was an agricultural labourer; Kezia was a factory hand; Walter was a farm labourer; then there was Lily; then came Wilfred, who was 13 in 1911 and is listed as a labourer; then came Arthur and then there were two more sons, then two more daughters.
