Wallace Jones enlisted for the duration of the war as Private 2698 in the 8th Battalion Notts and Derby Regiment on 16th October 1914 at Worksop. On his attestation paper he gave his age as 18 years and 8 months, stating he was born in Alfrick, Worcestershire in 1898. He lived at Makems Cottages, Alfrick near Worcester, gave his occupation as a Farm Labourer and his next of kin as his father, Harry Jones, Alfrick nr Worcester and his sister Annie of the same address. Wallace was 5 feet 4 inches tall at the time of his attestation. At a later date his age at the time of his enlistment was amended to 16 years and 6 months. On 19th June 1917 he was transferred to the Machine Gun Corps with the new service no 106881. Wallace was gassed on 12th May 1918, admitted to the General Hospital at Rouen on 14th May 1918 and invalided back to the UK on 22nd May 1918. He was discharged from the army on 27th February 1919 having seen action in France. His post war address was given as Fern Leigh House, Leigh nr Worcester.
