Further Information About JONES George Alfred

United Parish Magazine Shelsley Beauchamp and Walsh, January 1915:
We offer our congratulations to two new volunteers from the parish, George Jones and James Edwards.

United Parish Magazine Shelsley Beauchamp and Walsh, November 1915:
Early in October news came that Private George Jones, the son of our worthy Clerk, had been wounded in the Dardanelles.  He was taken to the military hospital at Alexandria on the 3rd of the month.  His shoulder had been badly injured, and two or three operations were found to be necessary in the hope of saving his life, but without avail, and he passed away on the 6th.  A memorial service was held in the Parish Church on the evening of the 19th, at which the Reverend Outram Smith spoke of the noble character of George as a boy and a man, and of his readiness to join the Worcestershire Regiment to fight for his country.  Our sympathies go out to Mr & Mrs Jones in their sorrow.

United Parish Magazine Shelsley Beauchamp and Walsh, June 1916:
Mr Moore spoke very sympathetically of the death of one of the sidesmen, who was one of the first to volunteer to fight for his country, and proposed the following resolution, which was seconded by Mr Daniels ‘That this meeting wishes to place on record its sorrow at the loss since last Easter Vestry of George Alfred Jones, one of the Church Sidesmen, who died from wounds received in Gallipoli.  He volunteered from a sense of duty early in the War, and will be a great loss to parish life’.
