Further Information About JACOMB William Horace Lea
Appears on the Army casualties list for Worcestershire.
William Jacomb was born in 1916. He attended Malvern College in House 3 from 1930 to 1934.
The following report appears in Berrow’s Worcester Journal, Saturday 27th April 1940:
Capt. W.H.L. Jacomb
Sympathy from their many friends will be extended to Mr and Mrs F. Bernard Jacomb on the death of their eldest son, Mr Wm. Horace Lea Jacomb which occurred on Thursday.
Mr Jacomb was educated at Malvern College, and on leaving there joined the firm of Whatley and Mellor, solicitors of Malvern and Worcester. He joined the R.F.A. Territorials and took a very keen interest in the work and was made captain last summer.
Soon after mobilisation he went abroad on active service but later was sent home to England to hospital. He had been in hospital about seven weeks when he died from the illness contracted while on service. He was 24 years of age. He was a very enthusiastic Territorial and was fulfilling the promise he early gave of being a fine soldier. He has two brothers on service, one with the Worcestershire Regiment and one with the Warwicks.
The funeral will take place at Broadheath Church on Monday at 2.30.
Berrow’s Worcester Journal, Saturday 4th May 1940 reported the long list of mourners who attended Captain Jacomb’s funeral. The report also contains a photograph of William Jacomb.
