Albert Hyde volunteered for the Worcester Territorials. He joined the 1/7th Battalion and undertook training in England until they joined the 46th (South Midland) Division for passage to France on the 1st April 1915. They were posted to a quiet sector near Armentieres but one where they suffered their first casualties. German shelling was troublesome and one of the casualties was Private Albert Hyde who was killed in action on the 30th April 1915.
On the 1911 census Albert Hyde aged 16, Blacksmith, was resident at 66 Dudley Road, Lye with his parents William and Mary, his two younger siblings and his grandfather.
