John Hooper was born in Leigh Sinton in 1887, the son of George and Jane Hooper (nee Fitzer) who had married in 1873. He enlisted as Private 7695 in the Worcestershire Regiment on 10th March 1901 in Worcester when he gave his age as 17 years and 11 months. He was resident in Grimley and worked as a labourer for Mr Nicholls in the village. At the time of his enlistment he was 5 feet 6¼ inches tall with a fresh complexion, blue eyes and light brown hair. His next of kin is shown as his mother, Jane Jones, Rose Cottage, Grimley and his brother Tom Hooper, Ombersley near Worcester. John possibly married Alice Lane in Worcester in the June Quarter 1918. He died at home aged 32 on 2nd April 1921.
