Henry Joseph Holt was born on the 1st November 1897 to parents Thomas Joseph Holt (Carpenter, Coffin Maker) and Ellen Hannah Holt (nee Foster). The family resided in the village of Crowle located 5.4 miles East of the city of Worcester.
Henry was the third eldest brother in a family of seven consisting of:

Vera May Holt B.1902
The children were all born in Thatch Cottage, Crowle, a one bedroom cottage in the heart of the village.
His 2 elder brothers also served in the first war – William Harold Holt B:1895, returned home after the war and Hubert Holt who was killed in Mesopotamia (Iraq) on the 25th January 1917 and is buried in the Amara war cemetery.
Henry enlisted into the Worcestershire Regiment as Private 35287 on the 19th January 1916 when he was just over 19 years of age. He served 1 Year 278 days before he was finally discharged on the 1st June 1918 as medically unfit after a Gun Shot wound to the left elbow. This entitled him to wear one stripe of Gold braid on his clothing.
Henry died on the 22nd December 1975, aged 78.
