Arthur William Hingley was born in 1917, birth registered as William A. Hingley in the September Quarter 1917 under the Dudley Registration District, mothers maiden name: Beasley. John Hingley and Lily Beasley married during the December Quarter 1913. William A. Hingley married Gladys Childs during the December Quarter 1939. Army records and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission also match these official records, giving his name as William Arthur Hingley. However, it would appear that for reasons unknown, William was known within the family by his second name of Arthur and this may explain why he appears on Quarry Bank War Memorial as Arthur William Hingley.
