Further Information About HILL William

William Hill worked for Messrs Bantocks of Lye and volunteered for the Worcesters at Christmas 1914. He was sent to the 4th Battalion who went in April 1915 to Gallipoli. The landing at Cape Helles was successful but the Turks could not be driven from the high ground of the peninsula. Two battles in front of the village of Krithia were unsuccessful and the third on the 4th June was a serious defeat. It was a costly battle and among the many killed was Private William Hill.
