Berrow’s Worcester Journal, 12th December 1914:
Martley Man killed
Information has been received officially by Mr C Hill, Newtown, that his son, Pte J Hill, 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards, was killed in action on Nov. 10th. A rumour was current to this effect some three weeks ago, but it is only now officially confirmed. Pte. Hill was well-known in the parish, and much sympathy is felt for his parents and family. He was a Reservist for two or three years, but at once re-joined his regiment on the outbreak of war. This is Martley’s first loss in the War.
