Further Information About HEMMING Arthur
Arthur Hemming was born on 11th February 1889 in the village of Chaddesley Corbett, near Kidderminster, Worcestershire. He resided in the village at the time of his appointment as Police Constable No 207, Worcester Constabulary on 18th February 1910. At that time he was single and working as a bricklayer in Chaddesley Corbett. He was 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighed 12 stone, his chest measurement was 36 inches and he had a fresh complexion with grey eyes and brown hair. He spent 6 years and 114 days with the constabulary, rising to the rank of Constable 1st Class and working at Police Headquarters in Worcester until 22nd April 1910 and then at Oldbury police station from 23rd April 1910 until 11th June 1916 when he resigned and enlisted in the Military Police. Between the 6th and 20th September 1914, Arthur was off sick for a total of 15 days. He married Lily French from Oldbury on 8th August 1916.
