HARVEY Henry Burnett

Henry was a pupil at Worcester Royal Grammar School from 1908 to 1910 when the family lived at the Commandery, Sidbury, Worcester. He joined the Worcestershire Regiment on 4th January 1913 and had risen to the rank of Sergeant by May 1915. He transferred to the 13th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment in June 1917. His death was witnessed by Private Trigg who wrote:
“Mr Harvey was my platoon officer and was killed during a counter attack near Peronne. We were counter attacking and the Germans played a machine gun up the road, and Mr Harvey was shot in the head and killed outright. I was just at his side at the time. A very nice fellow he was.”

Henry’s family donated a cup to the Royal Grammar School in his memory which is presented at Speech Day to members of the Combined Cadet Force.
