Further Information About HARRISON Kenneth
Appears on the Royal Navy casualties list for Worcestershire.
HMS Arethusa sailed from Alexandria in November 1942 to form part of an escort for a convoy to Malta. On the 18th November she was 450 miles from port when low flying Italian aircraft dropped a torpedo which struck the ship. The explosion and fire that followed claimed the lives of 156 of the ship’s crew. Although badly damaged, the surviving crew members managed to get the ship back to Alexandria where she underwent temporary repairs before being taken to the USA for full repair.
A letter from V. St Patrick, The Vicarage, Broadway dated 13th May 1950 can be found within war records held at Worcestershire Archives requesting that Kenneth Harrison, RN be added to the county roll of honour.
Kenneth Harrison has no known grave, the photograph available shows his name on Chatham Naval Memorial.
