Arthur Hooper Harcourt was the youngest of the four children of Edward James Fisher Harcourt and Mary Harcourt (nee Ryder). He was born in January 1911. Arthur’s elder brother, Edward James Harcourt, was a career soldier with the Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. He served for almost 14 years, eventually reaching the rank of Sergeant Major (War Substantive). He survived WW2 and went on to live in the Dudley area for the rest of his life.
