Appears in the Worcester/Worcestershire Roll of Honour Book for army casualties located in Worcester Cathedral.

John Hancox enlisted in the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force on 20th September 1915 at Windsor, Ontario, Canada.  On his attestation paper he gave his date of birth as 2nd March 1893 in Wassell, Staffordshire, England, his occupation as a gear cutter and his next of kin as his mother, Mrs Rose Hancox, Hallow, Worcestershire, England.  This was later amended to his sister, Louise Hancox, Tiddington Rd, Stratford on Avon before reverting to his mother at 35 Great Lister Street, Birmingham.  John had 2 years previous military experience in the Territorials.  At the time of his attestation he was 5 feet 10 inches tall with blue eyes, brown hair and a sallow complexion.  He sailed from Halifax, Canada on the S.S. Lapland on 26th April 1916, arriving in England on 5th May 1916.  John was killed in action on 9th April 1917.
