Further Information About HALL Samuel

Samuel Hall enlisted in the Worcesters in 1916 and was sent to the 2nd Battalion.  They were involved in the Battle of the Somme in 1916 at Bazentin and in the Arras battle of 1917 at Croisilles near the Hindenburg Line.  In April 1918 they faced the second German Spring offensive on the Lys.  They fell back to Neuve Eglise where they gallantly held up the enemy attack for a while but had to retire to the Ravelsberg.  This was a €˜backs to the wall’ action and eventually at great cost the German advance was halted.  Private Samuel Hall was wounded and taken to a shelter which then sustained a direct hit.
