Further Information About HALL Roland
The following information has been researched by Brian Hill:
Roland Hall Was the son of James and Emma Hall, James was a wheelwright. In 1901 Roland lived with his parents and 4 brothers in Stoke Prior, Bromsgrove. From 1898 at the age of 14, he was employed as Assistant Porter at Blackwell Station, Midland Railway, at the Northern end of the Lickey Incline. By 1911 he had moved to 17 Henshaw Road, Small Heath where is listed as a boarder and employed as a tram conductor.
He first entered a theatre of war sometime after 31st December 1915. According to ‘Soldier’s Effects’, Roland died from pneumonia at the S.S. Hospital, Birmingham. Unfortunately, to date, it has not been possible to positively identify this hospital but by July 1919 all the Birmingham war and auxiliary hospitals had closed so it is probable this was a civilian hospital.
