HMS Beverley was a Town Class Destroyer. On 9th April 1943 she was part of a convoy in the North Atlantic when she collided with the British steam merchant ship Cairnvalona. The ship sustained serious damage, including the loss of anti-submarine equipment, and was placed at the rear of the convoy. At 05.49 on 11th April the convoy was 530 miles south of Greenland when it was sighted and attacked by German torpedoes fired from U-188, resulting in the sinking of HMS Beverley with the loss of 151 men from her crew of 155.
