Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) and Bar.
Eldest son of the late Colonel and Mrs Cheape, Wellfield, Fife and Bentley Manor, Worcestershire. Husband of Carsina (took the name Gray-Cheape on marriage). Born 15th November 1878. Served in the Boer War commanding the Worcestershire Squadron of the Imperial Yeomanry. A Major in the Worcestershire Yeomanry in Egypt and Gallipoli. Later second-in-command of 2nd Composite Yeomanry Regiment. Took command of the Warwickshire Yeomanry in December 1915. Awarded the Distinguished Service Order after taking part in the cavalry charge at Huj, Palestine on 8th November 1917. Lost in the sinking of €œLeasows Castle€ shortly after leaving Alexandria.
