Edward John Granet was born in Geneva Switzerland in 1858, the son of William and Adelaide Granet. He was educated at Malvern Wells School. In 1885 he married Evelyn Pulcherie Chapman at Wandsworth, London. He served in the South African campaign as Lieutenant Colonel 62nd Battery, Royal Field Artillery. During the Great War he was wounded at Suvla Bay.
