Samuel Gore sailed from Liverpool, England bound for Quebec, Canada on the SS Montrose on 4th May 1910. He enlisted in the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force on 30th November 1914 at West Down, South Camp, Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire. On his attestation paper he gave his date of birth as 12th March 1884 in Tenbury, Worcestershire, England, his next of kin as his mother, Sarah Gore, Teme Street, Tenbury, Worcestershire, England and his occupation as a farmer. Samuel was 5 feet 9½ inches tall with a medium complexion, grey eyes and black hair.

The Canada War Graves Registers (Circumstances of Casualty) records the following information on Private Samuel Gore: “Killed in Action” While with his Battalion in a charge on enemy redoubt “K.5” in the vicinity of Festubert he was instantly killed.
The Canada Commonwealth War Graves Registers record the following information on Private Samuel Gore: Killed in Action. No record of Burial – Killed in charge on redoubt K.5. His body was not recovered – A very deep and wide ditch had to be crossed in the attack and doubtless many of the killed lay there. Vimy Memorial.
