Edmund Goodwin was the only son of William and Florence Goodwin of 226 Wylds Lane, Worcester. He attended Worcester Royal Grammar school from 1925 to 1932. After leaving school he attended Birmingham University and then served an apprenticeship He married Winifred M. Goodall in 1938 and they had a daughter, Joyce H. Goodwin, who was born in early 1941.
In June 1940, Edmund enlisted in the RAF. On 2nd June 1942 he was the wireless operator on a Lancaster which took off from Woodhall Spa on a mission to bomb Essen. His aircraft was shot down near Dusseldorf with the loss of the entire crew, one of 31 aircraft that failed to return from the raid.
